Redmond

Enjoying some tea and a muffin at a groovy little coffee shop in Redmond. Putting on tights for the last few miles last night may have been a mistake in the long run. The extra pressure on the theoretically rehabilitated right knee has aggravated the old injury and it's causing a fuss. On the bright side, the weather is clearing up and the chai is fantastic, so, on the whole, a good morning.

  1. joe just sos'ed for his geared bike, he thinks the single is doing damage to his knee

    remember to underdo it neph,

    what's the concept:

    long slow reps

that won several new zealand gold medals

less endorphins per day but greater capacity for distance

I say this as a guy who ruined both achilles going for a record who hasn't run since the mercer island half marathon many many years ago

but as also somebody who fell thirty feet off a boathouse roof and after a puget sound dunking, climbed the stairs to my stash of ibuprofen

survival represents the golden mean, laddie
over the top, as the soldiers learned, frequently brings on the baddie

  2. all true.

My years on a single speed surely didn't help. The Ultimate injury I sustained a few years ago I believe is mostly to blame.

Funny thing is that I've learned this lesson before so I'm not overworking it. Whenever I get a sign of a problem I ease up and I've been keeping the miles easy, downshifting to where it's always a mellow spin. The problem seems to be more with the motion than with the pressure though. Even just letting the right leg sit limp on the pedal, as the left does the work, causes pain. I eventually hooked my right foot over the rear rack and pedaled with just my left leg. That worked.

    Hence not riding today.
